Reporting to the Director of Cell Engineering, the Cell Test Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing tests to evaluate the performance, safety, and reliability of lithium-ion cells. Your expertise will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our lithium-ion battery products.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
- Design and develop test plans, procedures, and protocols to evaluate lithium-ion cell performance, safety, and reliability
- Conduct electrical, thermal, and environmental tests on lithium-ion cells, including charge/discharge cycling, capacity testing, and abuse testing
- Interface with outside testing facilities for testing not carried out in-house
- Analyze test data and provide detailed reports on test results, including recommendations for cell improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cell design, manufacturing, and quality engineering, to identify and resolve cell performance and reliability issues
- Develop and maintain test equipment, software, and fixtures to support cell testing
- Stay up to date with industry trends, standards, and regulations related to lithium-ion cell testing and safety
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in lithium-ion cell testing, battery development, or related field
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion cell chemistry, physics, and materials science
- Proficiency in test equipment and software, such as battery cyclers, data acquisition systems, and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience with industry standards and regulations, such as UL, IEC, and IEEE
Preferred:
- Experience with cell design, manufacturing, or quality engineering.
- Knowledge of statistical process control and design of experiments (DOE)
- Familiarity with programming languages, such as C++, Java, or LabVIEW
- Certification in battery testing or safety, such as Certified Battery Engineer (CBE)
