Reporting to the Divisional Controller, the Cost Accountant is responsible for cost management, budgeting, and asset management within the division to provide insights into cost structures and efficiencies. This role is based in Henderson, NV.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
- Collect, examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records on operational costs including raw materials, labor, overhead, and other expenses.
- Develop standard costs of manufactured goods to optimize spending and improve profitability
- Establish cost of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping etc.
- Assist in the preparation of budged and forecasts by providing accurate cost data and insights.
- Analyze and report on variances between actual costs and budgeted costs, investigate discrepancies and recommend correct actions.
- Monitor inventory levels and valuation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Calculate and analyze the cost of goods sold for various products or services, considering all relevant cost factors.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
- Prepare cost reports for presentations for management, providing insights into cost trends, performance, and opportunities for improvements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies related to cost accounting.
- Work closely with functional teams such as production, procurement, and finance to gather relevant data and insights.
- Perform other duties outside their scope of work as assigned and required.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional certification such as CPA
- Proven experience in cost accounting or related roles, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Superior proficiency in financial reporting software tools, ERP software and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including writing and speaking, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Knowledge of cost accounting principles, techniques and best practices
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
