Director of Battery Systems and Electrical Engineering (Henderson, NV – Lake Mead location)

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Director of Battery Systems and Electrical Engineering to join our dynamic team.  The Director of Battery Systems and Electrical Engineering will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing electrical systems related to battery manufacturing and management.  This role requires extensive experience in electrical engineering with a focus on battery technologies, as well as the ability to lead complex projects and provide technical expertise across multiple faces of battery system development.  

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Lead the design and implementation of electrical systems for battery manufacturing processes, including battery management systems (BMS), charging systems, and power electronics.  
  • Develop, design and architect battery and battery management systems for Low Voltage and High Voltage battery solutions for customers in industrial, residential and commercial energy storage systems. 
  • Develop and optimize circuit designs, control algorithms, and hardware/software interfaces for battery applications. 
  • Review schematics, PCBA layout and designs using Altium Designer 
  • Performs and reviews Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) of circuits and batteries.
  • Interfaces and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations relevant to battery technologies including, but not limited to: UL, DNV, IEC.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects related to battery systems, from initial concept through to production, deployment, and operation.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, chemists, firmware and software engineering and production staff to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into battery designs.
  • Develop project timelines, budgets and resource plans; monitor progress and address any issues that arise.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Conduct technical reviews and validate design solutions to ensure performance, reliability, and safety.
  •  Lead troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts for complex electrical issues related to battery systems.
  • Implement and oversee testing protocols for electrical systems and battery management solutions to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Conduct design and process audits to identify and address potential issues before they affect production.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in battery technology, electrical engineering, and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvements in battery systems and manufacturing operations.
  • Communicate project status, technical findings, and recommendations to stakeholders and management. 
  • Lead initiatives to enhance the efficiency, performance, and safety of battery products.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and compliance records.
  • Performs other duties outside their scope of work as assigned and required.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or in a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in battery technology, energy storage systems and product design
  • Proven experience as a Director of Battery Systems and Electrical Engineering
  • Familiarity with battery management system firmware design, validation, and implementation
  • Strong aptitude in reading schematics and diagnosing/troubleshooting electronic assemblies, systems, and software
  • Experience with CAN, RS485, MODBUS TCP and external interfaces are required
  • Experience with electrical standards and safety regulations specific to battery manufacturing.  
  • Experience with debugging electronics using lab equipment including oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Experience with Project/Issue management tools 
  • Proficiency in soldering electronics assemblies (through-hole and surface mount)
  • Experience and proficiency with the Altium Designer and similar products
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a commitment to ongoing learning
