Engineering Technician (Calgary – Charger location)

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Research and Development Lead, the primary responsibility of the Engineering Technician is the investigation and analysis of returned products. This individual will also be responsible for supporting the overall engineering function of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 

  • Investigate customer-returned products and perform failure analysis.
  • Present the results of failure analysis to the customer in their preferred format, including but not limited to, analysis report, email, and phone calls.
  • Provide on-site technical support to the customers and troubleshoot equipment or software issues.
  • Perform demonstrations of technical products.
  • Answering technical questions, providing technical advice
  • Work closely with the sales department to support them with customer inquiries.
  • Document all investigation cases in compliance with ISO standards.
  • Summarize investigation cases regularly and submit engineering change requests (ECRs) that are originated from product failures.
  • Work with supervisors and co-workers to solve problems in production and critique the efficacy of a production process.
  • Assist in teaching Lithium Battery Safety courses to customers or employees at Charger Industries.
  • Assist in Engineering product designs.
  • Performing tests on electronics using a variety of testing equipment.
  • Technical knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of how the company products work.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Electronics Technologist diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • 7+ years of experience.
  • Previous experience working with MWD/LWD tools would be an asset.
  • Works independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Customer service and client interfacing skills
  • Knowledge of prints, schematics, mechanical drawings, visual aids, wire identification, color codes, and associated component identification is required.
  • Experience with various hand tools, including MTA, modular connectors, ferrule crimps, and both open and closed-barrel hand tools.
  • A soldering certificate in accordance with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and IPC-7711) is strongly preferred but not required.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 training and certification are strongly preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to think critically and solve problems with appropriate methods. 
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English. Must possess strong communication skills.
  • Competence with computers in general and with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Previous experience with electronics design software would be an asset.
  • Ability to learn and use new computer programs as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or workstation
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Capable of lifting and carrying equipment, tools, or material weighing up to 50 lbs.  This may involve moving or setting up equipment for testing or demonstration
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, pushing or pulling, bending or twisting motions
  • Walking and standing for extended periods during site inspections, meetings, or while supervising construction or manufacturing processes
  • Standing, bending, or kneeling to access equipment, perform on-site assessments, operate machinery, handle delicate components, or perform detailed inspections 
  • Occasional travel to client sites or other company facilities may be required
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies including the ability to move quickly from job sites or perform urgent troubleshooting
  • Working in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels. May involve exposure to battery chemicals or other materials used in the assembly process.
  • Required to wear and properly use personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and gloves as required by safety protocols
